And the entire drive mechanics require no oil whatsoever. This makes the new compressor a real alternative to oil-free screw compressors. The Barry Callebaut Group – the globally leading manufacturer of premium chocolate and cocoa products – relies on BOGE’s high-quality turbo compressors.
A direct comparison: BOGE’s new T220 turbo compressor is significantly smaller than an oil-free screw compressor with the same output. The installation area is half the size, the weight two thirds less. The reduction of assembly space is possible, for example, because air-cushioned drive shafts and powerful motors are used in a sophisticated compression process. The new turbo compressor is also very energy-efficient and generates 35.6 m³/min free air delivery at a pressure of 7.5 bar. Energy-efficient and low-cost – this is what also convinced the Barry Callebaut Group to use the new turbo compressors. Thanks to the T series, the Swiss chocolate manufacturer saves thousands of Euros per year in energy and maintenance costs.

Three-stage compression method without the use of oil
The compression principle is based on three-stage compression that requires no oil whatsoever. Two permanent magnet motors drive titanium impellers of different sizes, ensuring a high energy density. 60,000 revolutions per minute are generated without the use of gears. The drive shaft is air-cushioned and stabilises itself. It therefore needs neither additional energy nor lubrication. This is what sets it apart from conventional magnet and roller bearings. No lubrication is required for the drive mechanics. Therefore, there is no need for any oil circuit components, which, in turn, saves space. Furthermore, the system’s reliability increases because fewer components are subject to wear or need to be maintained.
Sustainable operation with economic benefits
Not only does the T220 generate oil-free Class 0 compressed air, but it is also very quiet during operation, thanks to its sound pressure level of 70 dB(A). Users benefit from a reasonable purchase price, low operating costs and therefore significantly reduced Total Cost of Ownership. The comprehensive maintenance concept promises planning reliability. The maintenance contract is initially valid for five years, but it can be extended several times and expanded by an additional component, creating Full Service. With this sustainable design principle, BOGE ensures economic as well as ecological relief. This is not just down to the omission of oil and the reduction in CO2 emissions associated with the high level of energy efficiency, but also the option of being able to utilise 80 per cent of the energy used in the form of heat.
