Smart move: RS Edelstahl produziert jetzt seinen Stickstoff selbst.

Sustainable, self-sufficient, and always tailored to requirements—that is how RS Edelstahl envisions nitrogen generation for the manufacture of its stainless steel products. The Austrian company found this combination in an energy-efficient complete system from INMATEC and BOGE, which met the company's requirements exactly with compressed air supply, heat recovery, and connection to a photovoltaic system.

RS Edelstahl manufactures high-quality stainless steel products for drinking water supply and swimming pool construction – from small pool modules to drinking water tanks with a capacity of several thousand liters. The central manufacturing process is laser cutting, which uses high-purity nitrogen with a purity of 5.0. Until now, the manufacturer had to rely on purchased nitrogen bundles – a cost-intensive, inflexible solution with limited planning reliability.

Together with our dealer Schachermayer from Linz, we proposed a BOGE C15-2 LFDR screw compressor with integrated heat recovery (duotherm) for the compressed air supply, including an activated carbon adsorber (DCZ) for oil vapor separation and BOGE Leakstop, which reliably prevents leakage losses during downtimes. An INMATEC PN150 generator with AutoPure function supplies nitrogen of purity class 5.0, which is precisely tailored to the requirements of laser cutting. The system solution is linked to the existing PV system and primarily uses self-generated electricity. In particular, the cutting quality during laser cutting has improved significantly thanks to the consistently high nitrogen purity. This has set new standards in terms of technology, economy, and ecology.

The challenge

RS Edelstahl wanted to become independent of costly, inflexible nitrogen deliveries while optimizing energy efficiency, supply security, and the use of its own PV system. In addition, the heat generated during compression was to be used for hot water production in the plant.

The BOGE solution

A customized, highly efficient system solution that delivers nitrogen with a purity class of 5.0 while optimally integrating compressed air supply, heat recovery, and PV connection. The nitrogen can be accessed flexibly—especially when low-cost electricity or surplus PV energy is available.

The result

In addition to maximum supply reliability, RS Edelstahl benefits from higher cutting quality and reduced energy costs thanks to PV and heat recovery.
